5)  Try not to hassle people for fishing spot info. Have a sense of adventure. Read fishing reports, look at Google Earth, scour old forum posts and investigate. You can learn a lot about patterns, good fishing holes, etc from just a wee bit of effort. As I stated before, kayak anglers are pretty self-reliant folks, and most of the good ones put in a lot of hours honing skill and finding good spots. Don’t expect them to just turn around and hand that info over to you if you’re not going to show any initiative. But do your homework and get after it and you’ll quickly be welcomed into a great community of giving people.
Kayak trailers need to made of a lightweight yet durable material. This job usually goes to a specialized type of steel. Galvanized steel is not only light and strong but also rust resistant. This allows you to pull right up to the water, and even into it, to launch your kayak. Knowing that you can use your trailer the way you want will increase the amount of time you’ll use it.
There seem to be no anthropometry stats of kayakers, who may not be representative of the general population. In the American civilian population of the early 1960s, about 0.7% of men and 9% of women weighed under 50 kg (110 lb); 20% of men and 7% of women weighed over 190 pounds (86 kg).[10] In the same population in the late sixties, the average weight of both male and female children crossed 50 kg (110 lb) at age thirteen. In the early 2000s, it was a year or two earlier, and the mean weight of adults was over 10 kg (22 lb) heavier. Also in the early 2000s, the mean weight of men was 190 pounds (86 kg), and the mean weight of women was 163 pounds (74 kg).[11]

The sea kayak, though descended directly from traditional types, is implemented in a variety of materials. Sea kayaks typically have a longer waterline, and provisions for below-deck storage of cargo. Sea kayaks may also have rudders or skegs (fixed rudder) and upturned bow or stern profiles for wave shedding. Modern sea kayaks usually have two or more internal bulkheads. Some models can accommodate two or sometimes three paddlers.
Brake lights. Another big safety feature you’ll want to look into for your truck kayak trailer are functioning brake lights. If the car behind you on the road doesn’t know you’re braking they’re more likely to hit you. Checking your states laws on trailers and brake lights may make it more than a convenience and safety issue; you may find it’s the law in your state.
You will find that in most cases the kayak trailers you are choosing between have tires of similar size. If you come across trailers that utilize different sized tires, there are some things you should remember. Smaller tires are good to use if you are transporting a lightweight load on well kept roads such as in cities. They are more economical to pull and result in better gas mileage. If you plan to go on any sort of rougher terrain, opting for bigger tires are a better option. Many lakes require you to meander down to dirt roads and rocky paths for water access. Having bigger tires means you will not have to carry your kayaks far and an instead pull up right to the water’s edge.

Kayaks come in very different shapes and sizes, what you need in a kayak trailer depends on whether you’re hauling whitewater, sea, touring or fishing kayaks. GO and GO Easy Adventure Trailers were designed to accommodate all types of boats. In our photo gallery, you can see examples of different types of kayaks and how they fit—although the possibilities certainly don’t stop there!

A: This varies from trailer to trailer. The Kayak XTRALIGHT Trailer Package by Malone can support a weight of 275 pounds. While this sounds like a lot of weight, the Auto Racks MicroSport Trailer by Malone can hold a more impressive 350 pounds. Every kayak trailer that you look for will inform you of 2 different weights: the weight of the trailer and the total load capacity.

Baits that offer resistance like crankbaits, spinnerbaits, and chatterbaits can actually be used to help steer the boat. If you’re fishing a crankbait from a lightweight kayak, you’ll quickly realize that the simple resistance of reeling in the bait will actually pull your boat in the direction you’re casting. Use this to your advantage, and make casts in specific directions to subtly adjust your boat’s position.

I started working at Appomattox River Company in May of 2012. That fall I had moved into a marketing-digital role and begun looking for ways to increase our brand awareness. Appomattox River Company already had a good name in the paddle-sports industry, and I wanted to find more people and draw them into the fun. I paddled some canoes as a kid, and I’d paddled a little whitewater, but there were so many long-time canoeists and whitewater paddlers in the company here in Farmville, that I decided to tackle a different scene.
Malone made this heavy duty Xtralight trailer that has a military grade galvanized steel frame you can trust. With leaf spring suspension you can be assured that your kayaks will be protected even on bumpy roads. The heavy duty axle features 2 sets of padded V racks which allow you to transport your kayaks without a scratch. With a 2 kayak capacity, it is clear to see why this is the best multiple kayak trailer. Malone includes everything you need to pull your 2 kayak trailer including 12 foot load straps and mounting hardware.
While native people of the Arctic regions hunted rather than fished from kayaks, in recent years kayak sport fishing has become popular in both fresh and salt water, especially in warmer regions. Traditional fishing kayaks are characterized by wide beams of up to 42 inches (110 cm) that increase their lateral stability. Some are equipped with outriggers that increase their stability, and others feature twin hulls enabling stand up paddling and fishing. Compared with motorboats, fishing kayaks are inexpensive and have few maintenance costs. Many kayak anglers like to customize their kayaks for fishing, a process known as 'rigging'.
Use Google Earth or other online sources to scout out small non-motor lakes, streams and rivers. One of the best things about kayak fishing is the ability to get on water that isn’t crowded with boaters. Pay attention to where ramp and entry points are located, as well as where some prime fishing spots may be. Doing this will help you save time, stay safe and will increase your chances of catching some fish!
Do I need to be an experienced kayaker? How physically fit should I be?The amount of experience that we ask that you have depends on the cruise you choose. If you have no experience at all then we’d suggest one of our Basecamp voyages where we’ll happily introduce even the most inexperienced kayakers to this wonderful new experience.Kayaking in Spitsbergen © Pete Gwatkin-Oceanwide Expeditions
We purchased a Paddlesport Trailer from the Dock Doctors, and we're very happy. Not only is the trailer light, maneuverable, and versatile, the Dock Doctors' customer service is great! We had some trouble getting the trailer lights to work with our vehicle. We returned to the shop, and one of their staff stayed with us--after hours--until he resolved the problem. They are friendly, helpful and dedicated!
You will need to figure out how much gear you actually need to carry. These trailers range from 1 to 4 kayaks but won’t be hauling any more than that unless you get a specialty trailer. Every trailer on our list is lightweight yet built from materials that make them strong to hold plenty of kayaks. This is done by using a strong galvanized steel. It is not only one of the strongest and most durable materials, it is also rust and corrosion resistant. This means that you can pull the trailer up to the ocean without worrying that it will start to degrade.
Just like the one handed cast, efficient kayak angling requires skill in handling a paddle with one hand. Paddling a kayak is simple with two hands, as the rhythm comes easily to even the least experienced of anglers. But what do you do when you’re fighting a fish with one hand, and you’ve got to steer your boat back upstream to get on the other side of a laydown or avoid an overhanging branch? Practice locking the shaft of your paddle along a forearm, which anchors it along your arm, and allows you to use it more like a canoe paddle.

Once you’ve mastered how to kayak as a beginner, you may want to enhance your skill level and eventually take on whitewater kayaking. We don’t blame you — whitewater kayaking can be an exhilarating experience that allows you to view nature from a perspective like no other. If you get to the point where you’d like to consider taking on this challenge, here are a few whitewater kayaking tips you should know:
Member of Natural State Kayak Anglers (NSKA) and participant in Kayak Bass Fishing (KBF), Kayak Bass Series (KBS), Razoryak Tournmanent Trail (RTT) and other regional kayak fishing tournament trails. My goal is to share the great, growing sport of kayak fishing and to support brands I value and use. Helping new kayak anglers get started is important, particularly in sharing tips and information on kayaks, gear and baits. Currently already working with various nationally known bait company brands to help with grass roots promotion of their products.

Hypothetical cross-sections of kayaks. Left to right: High primary stability but low secondary stability, lower primary stability but ~same secondary stability, lower primary but higher secondary stability, two extra chines, four extra chines. More chines (angles) give a more rounded profile, decreasing stability, tracking, and the wetted area, and increasing speed.
