In 1931, Adolf Anderle was the first person to kayak down the Salzachöfen Gorge, which is believed to be the birthplace of modern-day white-water kayaking.[6] Kayak races were introduced in the Berlin Olympic Games in 1936.
You should expect any amount of wind, from a small breeze to a huge gust, to have some effect on your kayak. This is normal, and you can readily compensate for it. To conserve energy, paddle with the wind and not into it if you can. You can also paddle harder, use a rudder or add an extra stroke to your downwind side in order to make adequate wind corrections.

We are sorry to hear your hitch pin was stolen off your trailer, please contact us and we can provide a replacement. The pins we use are stainless steel, rather than a standard 1/2" pin which would be zinc and prone to rusting. You also can find basic info on the trailer VIN sticker, such as tire size, GVWR, load capacity, etc... This is located on the front edge of the trailer by the tongue. Novices often use both rudders and skegs incorrectly and often forget to pull them up in shallow water, which can cause damage. For this reason, it’s simplest to leave them undeployed. Paddling without your rudder encourages you to learn better paddling technique more quickly. And if it’s so windy that you need a skeg or rudder, you really shouldn’t be paddling without an experienced guide who can explain how to use them properly.

Contrary to popular belief, the sit-on-top kayak hull is not self bailing, since water penetrating it does not drain out automatically, as it does in bigger boats equipped with self bailing systems. Furthermore, the sit-on-top hull cannot be molded in a way that would assure water tightness, and water may get in through various holes in its hull, usually around hatches and deck accessories. If the sit-on-top kayak is loaded to a point where such perforations are covered with water, or if the water paddled is rough enough that such perforations often go under water, the sit-on-top hull may fill with water without the paddler noticing it in time.


Yes…..You can install the CKF Paddle Clips on the Prowler and other “rounded” kayaks by flexing the base to conform to the hull. Stainless nuts and bolts are recommended when access to the interior is afforded. Snug the paddle clip base down gradually alternating back and forth between each fastener. Stainless sheet metal screws or rivets will work when a “blind” fastener is needed. The Paddle Clips should be installed at room temperature or warmer for an easy application.

I decided to try kayak fishing. I’d fished as a kid, on occasion as a teen, but hadn’t done much in my adult life. So I started casting lines from a used kayak in April of 2013. I got into kayak fishing thinking that it would be a good marketing angle, to pick up some skills, and to relate to that portion of the paddle-sports market. I also thought it wouldn’t hurt to appeal to the larger fishing market. I had no idea that this motivation would quickly turn into an absolute obsession, and that within me lay dormant a passion that exploded with that first cast and that first kayak caught bass.

Fishing kayaks have been surging in popularity. These craft allow you to move stealthily across the water without the expense, upkeep, and fuel needed for a larger boat. Fishing kayaks are designed for comfort and stability and they come with convenient features for anglers, from rod holders to livewells. The challenge with fishing kayaks is that they’re often too heavy to load onto the roof of a car or SUV. It’s common for fishing kayaks to weigh over 75 pounds and some weigh over 125 pounds!


Between the creekboat and playboat extremes is a category called river–running kayaks. These medium–sized boats are designed for rivers of moderate to high volume, and some, known as river running playboats, are capable of basic playboating moves. They are typically owned by paddlers who do not have enough whitewater involvement to warrant the purchase of more–specialized boats.
Brake lights. Another big safety feature you’ll want to look into for your truck kayak trailer are functioning brake lights. If the car behind you on the road doesn’t know you’re braking they’re more likely to hit you. Checking your states laws on trailers and brake lights may make it more than a convenience and safety issue; you may find it’s the law in your state.

Whether you need a simple one/two capacity trailer to help you move your boat around or a mega-rack on wheels that can hold up to a dozen kayaks or more, the basic trailer is simply a kayak rack on wheels, hauled behind a vehicle. Adding multiple tiers, including a floor or better yet a full-frame gear box, turns a simple wheeled frame into a major piece of kayak utility transport. The number and type of racks,  support bars and storage area, as well as other components (wheels, signals, tongue length and strength) all come into consideration when determining what kind of trailer will best serve your needs.

Traditional-style and some modern types of kayaks (e.g. sit-on-top) require that paddler be seated with their legs stretched in front of them, in a right angle, in a position called the "L" kayaking position. Other kayaks offer a different sitting position, in which the paddler's legs are not stretched out in front of them, and the thigh brace bears more on the inside than the top of the thighs (see diagram).
Nearly all trailers can haul more than one kayak. This is a great way to transport your friend’s or family’s kayak. When hauling more than one kayak it’s important to ensure your vehicle is able to handle that much weight. Keep in mind that you not only have to factor in the weight of the kayaks but also the weight of the trailer and any other gear strapped to the trailer.
The next question you should ask yourself is whether or not you have the tools needed to assemble your trailer. If you do not, most tools can easily be rented from local hardware stores that will help you get what you need. Keep in mind the cost of these rentals though. In some cases, it can cost as much to rent the tools needed to install it than it does to simply buy a pre-assembled unit.
