What gear do you need before you embark? Paddles and life jackets to be sure, but how about getting your kayak from the garage to the water? Dollies and car racks designed specifically for kayaks are the answer. And, when you’re out on the water, how about a third hand? As that is not actually possible, perhaps an anchor, a rod holder and landing gear would help. We’ve got all the accessories you need for epic kayak fishing expeditions.

The Malone XtraLight 2 Kayak Package with V style Kayak Carriers is designed to carry two kayaks (or canoes, if that better suits your fancy – or if you like the versatility of being able to use this one trailer for both). You can fit a decently wide kayak on the rack, up to 29″ width will fit comfortably in each slot. You’ll place these kayaks into the trailer bottom down and count on the extra padding to protect them.

We purchased a Paddlesport Trailer from the Dock Doctors, and we're very happy. Not only is the trailer light, maneuverable, and versatile, the Dock Doctors' customer service is great! We had some trouble getting the trailer lights to work with our vehicle. We returned to the shop, and one of their staff stayed with us--after hours--until he resolved the problem. They are friendly, helpful and dedicated!

This is the basic turning stroke. If you do repeated forward strokes on the same side of the boat, you’ll notice that the boat slowly turns the other way. The sweep stroke simply exaggerates this effect. The sweep is the same as a forward stroke, except that you alter the blade path so that it carves a much wider arc on the side of the boat. Sweep strokes on the right side of the boat will turn the boat left and left-side sweep strokes will turn the boat right.

This type of kayak trailer is ideal for a family or a group that happens to be traveling together and they are also designed to be able to carry bikes and other cargo including canoes.

The instructions for how you get out of a kayak are easy to remember — just complete the steps in reverse. When exiting on the shore, paddle your kayak into shallow water or as close to the land as possible. Swing your legs out of the kayak, gain your footing and stand up. When exiting the kayak on a dock, turn your body to face the dock and pull yourself out of the kayak.
The next question you should ask yourself is whether or not you have the tools needed to assemble your trailer. If you do not, most tools can easily be rented from local hardware stores that will help you get what you need. Keep in mind the cost of these rentals though. In some cases, it can cost as much to rent the tools needed to install it than it does to simply buy a pre-assembled unit.

Every single kayak trailer has a maximum weight rating. If you already have a kayak it’s important to check it’s weight as to not exceed the trailers limit. The average kayak will weigh around 40 lbs while the typical single large kayak trailer can be be rated for a weight of about 200 lbs. If you exceed the limit you can risk it breaking in transit.

There are many types of kayaks used in flat water and whitewater kayaking. The sizes and shapes vary drastically depending on what type of water to be paddled on and also what the paddler would like to do. The second set of essentials for kayaking is an off-set paddle where the paddle blades are tilted to help reduce wind resistance while the other blade is being used in the water. These vary in length and also shape depending on the intended use, height of the paddler, and the paddler's preference. Kayaks should be equipped with one or more buoyancy aid (also called flotation) which creates air space that helps prevent a kayak from sinking when filled with water. A life jacket should be worn at all times (also called a personal flotation device or PFD), and a helmet is also often required for most kayaking and is mandatory for white water kayaking.[11][12] Various other pieces of safety gear include a whistle for signaling for help; throwing ropes to help rescue other kayakers; and, a diving knife and appropriate water shoes should used depending upon the risks the water and terrain pose. Proper clothing such as a dry suit, wetsuit or spray top also help protect kayakers from cold water or air temperatures.[13]
