I decided to try kayak fishing. I’d fished as a kid, on occasion as a teen, but hadn’t done much in my adult life. So I started casting lines from a used kayak in April of 2013. I got into kayak fishing thinking that it would be a good marketing angle, to pick up some skills, and to relate to that portion of the paddle-sports market. I also thought it wouldn’t hurt to appeal to the larger fishing market. I had no idea that this motivation would quickly turn into an absolute obsession, and that within me lay dormant a passion that exploded with that first cast and that first kayak caught bass.

Primary (sometimes called initial) stability describes how much a boat tips, or rocks back and forth, when displaced from level by paddler weight shifts. Secondary stability describes how stable a kayak feels when put on edge or when waves are passing under the hull perpendicular to the length of the boat. For kayak rolling, tertiary stability, or the stability of an upside-down kayak, is also important (lower tertiary stability makes rolling up easier).
We purchased a Paddlesport Trailer from the Dock Doctors, and we're very happy. Not only is the trailer light, maneuverable, and versatile, the Dock Doctors' customer service is great! We had some trouble getting the trailer lights to work with our vehicle. We returned to the shop, and one of their staff stayed with us--after hours--until he resolved the problem. They are friendly, helpful and dedicated!
Comfort is key during long hours on the water. Sit-on-top kayaks are ideal for beginners or novice anglers. And this brand of kayak is easier to get in and out of from the dock or the shore. Sit-in seats are typically above water-level, so these boats are wider than traditional kayaks. For added comfort, choose a fishing kayak with a padded and adjustable seat and adjustable foot pegs.
Entry level kayak anglers will find quality information, regional blogs with kayak fishing info and tutorials, direction to all the fisheries and a lot more in the weeks and months ahead. After more than 20 years reaching anglers making their first searches, we’re adding resources for veteran kayak anglers too. Pour through the site menu and feel free to contact us for info or send a fishy picture anytime along the way.
This is the best 4 kayak trailer that can hold up to 4 kayaks. Like most trailers on our list this one is made from marine grade galvanized steel. The frame is a T-Box design that uses a leaf spring suspension system. You won’t have to worry about the axle as it’s also galvanized and heavy duty. The wheels are on the smaller size at 8 inches but can still carry up to 4 full sized kayaks, stand up paddle boards or even canoes weighing up to 275 lbs. Your gear will rest on foam blocks included with this trailer.
“I just wanted to drop you a quick line and say, “thanks” for your outstanding customer service. It’s been almost exactly one year since I purchased my Perception kayak from you guys (and gals), and I’ve had a BLAST with it from the moment I brought it home. I’ve been back a time or two to pick up some additional gear and again, you all were great! … Your 1 year 10% discount kept me coming back for more. As a matter of fact, I’ve even sent some friends down who have all purchased kayaks and been just as pleased with their service and products. Keep up the great work and I hope to see you soon!”
It’s been over two years since this journey began. I’ve learned quite a bit along the way. I decided to list some of those lessons. This by no means will be an exhaustive list, and I’ll compile a more technical one soon. But if you’re just starting out kayak angling, hopefully some of these will help you out. Kayak fishing is a fantastic, soulful way to spend some time.
Brake lights. Another big safety feature you’ll want to look into for your truck kayak trailer are functioning brake lights. If the car behind you on the road doesn’t know you’re braking they’re more likely to hit you. Checking your states laws on trailers and brake lights may make it more than a convenience and safety issue; you may find it’s the law in your state.
If you’re looking for the best kayak car trailer this is the one for you. It is made from a lightweight yet strong galvanized steel frame which sits on 12 inch wheels. This trailer can carry everything you use in the summer including kayaks, stand up paddle boards, and bicycles. This is done by having extra long crossbars which are compatible with every roof rack style.
6) Want to get a great shot of your catch? Get a mount for your camera (Yak Attack or Yak Gear). Attach some fish grips to a T-Reign retractor tether. When you catch that big’un, slap it on the tethered fish grips and let it chill in the water while you get your camera all set up. Press the timer setting and when the camera gets ready to shoot, pull your fish up and it will be fresh for the photo.
One of the most common uses of kayaks for hobbyists is whitewater kayaking. Whitewater kayaking is when a kayaker traverses down a series of rapids. The difficulty of these rapid ranges from Class I to Class VI. The difficulty of rapids often changes with water level and debris in the river. Debris that inhibits a kayakers path are often called "strainers" as they "strain" out the kayakers like a colander. There are often training camps as well as man-made structures to help train kayakers.
